Contexte announces the appointment of Sean Carroll as EU politics reporter. In this role, he will contribute to the launch of a new English-language vertical fully dedicated to the world of EU public affairs.
Sean brings with him years of journalism experience in Brussels, gained at outlets such as Euractiv and FORESIGHT Climate and Energy. Through print and broadcast journalism, his work has focused on the realpolitik of EU policymaking, analysing the political forces that shape Brussels’ decisions.
Sean holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Dublin City University, Ireland and a master’s degree in European media from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium.
“I’m excited to join the talented team at Contexte, which has built a stellar reputation for deeply researched, rigorously reported journalism,” he said. “Brussels is known as a policy town, but its policymaking is a product of political realities, both domestic and international. With the continent facing immense challenges, from defence concerns to economic woes, there is no better time for Contexte to enter this space.”
Anca Gurzu, managing editor for EU politics, said Sean’s arrival is an important step for Contexte.
“Bringing Sean on board is another key building block in shaping our new EU politics vertical. With his expertise, he will play a central role in helping readers navigate the EU’s complex machinery and uncover the stories and insights that matter most in Brussels.”
